It is a well-known fact that the things you do in the morning can make or break your day. The best way to prevent your day from turning sour is by establishing a solid morning routine.
Whether you are getting ready for work, a day out with your family, or a marathon, when you start your day right, you set yourself up for success.
Healthy Morning Habits
Give yourself time to wake up.
No one likes to spring out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off. Set your alarm for an earlier time, that way you have a “buffer” that will allow you to wake up and gather your thoughts before you start your day.
Put your phone aside.
A recent IDC Research survey showed that 79% of smartphone users reach for their phone within the first 15 minutes of waking up, with that statistic being even higher among the younger population. This can create an undue amount of stress and anxiety first thing in the morning, which drags the entire day down. Instead, you could aim to set your phone aside for the first hour of being awake.
Nourish your body.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! And yet, a significant portion of adults skip their morning meal. In order to prepare your mind and body for the day ahead, having a healthy, nutritious breakfast is key.
Get ahead of yourself.
If you are not a morning person, help yourself get ready by setting things up the night before. This could include selecting your outfit for the next day, packing your bag, and prepping your breakfast in advance.
Round up your thoughts.
Meditation and journaling have proved to be excellent ways to start the day on the right foot. If you find that your mind is buzzing, you could spend the entire day getting distracted by the “beehive” of thoughts and emotions. Writing your thoughts can help you make sense of the chaos and be more productive.
Find joy in movement.
Doing some gentle exercise awakens the muscles, loosens the joints, and most importantly, produces endorphins. You may enjoy going for a morning run, performing a few Sun Salutations, or simply dancing to your favorite song! As long as you move with joy, your day is going to be great.
